Waking sleep

I've been having a lot of dreams lately that involve trying to wake up. I know I'm sleeping, but I want to wake up, I need to wake up, and it's a monumental struggle. I can't move, but I try my damnedest. I free an arm, open one eye, try to pull up my head, try to speak, try to control my breathing. Sometimes I feel like I'm suffocating. Usually it's scary; sometimes I'm just annoyed. And sometimes I succeed in "waking up," like the last time this happened. After which I promptly rolled off my bed (in my dream, not in reality), and then lay there, sprawled on the floor, tailbone aching, wondering, "What the fuck did I do that for?"

It makes me wonder if this is symbolic in some way, or whether it's physiological. It's happened so often recently, though, that sometimes when I'm very obviously awake, I seriously wonder if I'm really dreaming. Which makes me feel a little psychotic.

Not to freak you out or anything, but the same exact thing started happening to me when I was a freshman in high school. Turns out they were seizures, and that's how they discovered I had epilepsy. There are a lot of daytime symptoms that can point to this. But yeah, mine manifested itself in those same dreams. Just something to be aware of if it continues. Or maybe you just have satanic bed-bugs.

Seizures? Shit that happens to me all the time! Am I epileptic too?

I had dreams exactly like yours with one odd exception. When I was struggling to surface from the deep blue ocean of sleep, a man was standing at the bottom of the bed watching me struggle to move or scream or anything. These occurred during the period when my best friends in the entire universe and beyond lived in a geodesic dome with a small doe eyed daughter. They now live in a sylvan glade in the northern woods; we are all none the worse for wear and the small child has blossomed into a magnificent fierce woman
of incredible beauty. Never found out what the dreams were or were not. But they slowly faded. They are incredibly annoying and can be scary, but that was about the same time I had the final exam and never went to the class dream too!!!

Hey, if you find out the cause/meaning of your awake/asleep dreams, please let me know. I have had the same type dream from timt to time, waking up confused and wierded out. Occurred mostly back when I was in college so who knows. Deep, restful, continuous sleep is such a rare and fantastic thing!

yeah, same thing that happened to me when Iwas younger, everytime I had an afternoon nap and got a deep sleep, I had the same dream, feeling like I was falling deeply but I really tried to woke myself up, and that happened every 4pm. Very strange.
