It turns out that I don't hate dried figs. Something about the crunchy little seeds redeems the texture for me, and they're not hyper-sweet. I can now add this to my very small list of Dried Fruits I Do Not Hate, which also includes banana chips and possibly unsweetened/unsulphured mangoes.
Now if only I could find an olive I don't hate... For some reason, it really bothers me that I don't like olives. I try them every once in a while to see whether my palate has changed, but no luck so far.
Posted by thevieve at May 11, 2007 11:53 AMThis is very funny, because I myself have recently become addicted to dried figs. However, my addiction could be digging me into a hole because the figs in question live at Formaggio Kitchen. I was examining them one day, as they lay nestled in their basket, wondering they could be eaten in their current state. They looked so strange, yet I was oddly attracted to them, which is weird for me, since I'm not an eat outside the box type person. So I asked one of the boys that work their if they could be eaten just like they were, and instead of answering me he proceeded to just pop one in his mouth and smile. So I followed and let me tell you, like dried fruit crack. But here's the thing, I work there. Well, not at Formaggio, but within the four walls with the flowers, and I've started to follow suit (with permission) with the pop the casually pop a million dollar giant fig and run routine. About every five minutes. No one cares. Certain people would care, but I'm sly. Damn they are good. If I did have to pay for them...they are like 12 bucks a pound or something like that. Good lord.
And I hear you re: olives. Once a hater, always a hater. I'm cringing just thinking about them. Ugh. I think I need a fig.
