So, as of 11:58pm last

So, as of 11:58pm last night I am 26 years old. A lot has happened since my last birthday, and even though much of it was painful in the most heart-wrenching ways imaginable, so many things in my life have changed for the better. A year, or maybe even 6 months ago, it would have been impossible for me to imagine the life I have now, the people I share it with, and the unbounded optimism I now have for the future. In retrospect, I know all of that agony helped me grow up and allowed me to discover (at least in part) the life I know I want for myself. Here's to a joyful, felicitous and, of course, vievish new year!

Dinner at The Elephant Walk was wonderful, I couldn't have asked for a better birthday dinner, or for a better dinner companion. The tuna in my Avocat Kanthor au Thon melted in my mouth, the bottle of Gigondas was luscious, the poulet was succulent, and dessert was appropriately decadent. I even have leftovers for lunch!

And as for presents, I love my new 69 Love Songs box set, and Time Bandits DVD. I can't wait to listen to the commentary by Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin, John Cleese, and David Warner! Maybe that will happen tonight after yoga. Also, thank you Morgan for asking, "What are you now, 19... 20...?" and for actually looking surprised when I said I was 26. Flattery always makes a great present, whatever the occasion.
